I’ve just learned to listen to how people talk about themselves and to treat them accordingly, and, if I miss up, I earnestly apologize and do better later.
For me, it’s a similar situation for people who see my wedding ring an assume I have a wife.
Like, gay marriage is new and I purposely did not come out to them, so, of course, it’s not their fault that they got it wrong.
As long as they don’t shellack any other definition of my life partnership they may hold over the one I am currently living in, and we’ll be just fine!
