I’m not sure where I left off…

Things are going very well here, Didier!

I’m not sure where I left off in my story with you –My “All In The Family” facebook project was during the two month period of notice that Kevin’s old job gave him before they’re planned mass lay off. He had only one other job opportunity in front of him, and, of course, they made him undergo a six-phase interview before they finally offered him the job. That offer came two days before his old company brought employees in one-by-one and ultimately laid off 20% of the staff!

I was glad I had that facebook group to vent to, because we were still too new to DC to have any real support at that time.

It was a busy summer — The highlight of which being I found myself in Puerto Rico on FEMA business during the historic demonstrations. While I didn’t see the event itself, I met some of the local activists and was nothing but inspired, bringing home some of their productive anger and unrest back to the states!

Kevin’s been at his new job for several months now, and he’s very happy there. A new semester has started, and I’m really excited about my coursework. And I have some gripes working under the executive branch at this time, but I tell myself that it’s only temporary, seeing as I’m a contractor. The company that employs me is a minority-owned business, the CEO an incredible leader that I am grateful to work under every day.
I take a lot of inspiration in the way I understand queer family from the way he runs our small company, which, as hoaky as it sounds, feels like a family in of itself.

I don’t know if I’ll ever find myself back on social media. I am a cartographer, after all, and I don’t in good conscience know if I can support a platform that effectively invalidates physical borders. In so many ways, I think the reality of the present is due to such prolonged and unmediated communication between groups that have no business being in relationship with one another.

I am, however, keeping a public writing blog that I try to update every weekend, if you would be interested in that: https://wordswithinborders.wordpress.com/

I missed last weekend, but I am giving myself some slack, as school is just starting for the semester.

I am always just an email away if you ever want to check in — No one ever needs a reason to just say hi to someone, I think 🙂
Send Donald my best, and be well, Didier!!!!
