It’s funny you should send a note about the authors we think about.
I am taking a walk, before another day of large effort in the move, and I started thinking about a Virginia Woolf quote I came across this time last year, which would return to me during some intense moments that would follow:
“The future is dark, which is the best thing the future can be, I think.”
It doesn’t quite feel such a prophetic statement anymore. A year later, when there’s a little more light on my days to come, I’ve realized she was right—
Darkness is not a permanent state of being.
And when I stopped on the sidewalk to read your message initially, I looked up to see this.
